Ensuring the structural integrity of ageing infrastructure is an area of
increasing concern at an international level. Although no single technology can provide a complete monitoring solution Holroyd
Instruments has recognised the unique role that Acoustic Emission (AE) can play in providing a sensitive alert to when and
where degradation is occurring, whether in terms of global or ‘hot-spot’ monitoring.

SIMPAL Measurement Nodes are distributed signal processing units
that can aquire and process signals from up to 8 AE sensors and 4 external DC parametric signals. A pulser output enables
confirmation of long term stabiliy of the installed detection sensitivity of each AE channel. The unit is hardened against
nearby lightning strikes.

SIMPAL Controller Module supervises the operation of the SIMPAL system
on the structure. In this way the system can run autonomously without the aid of a dedicated PC connection. The unit is hardened
against nearby lightning strikes.

SIMPAL Vu is PC based software providing system set-up, data handling
and analysis functions. All of these can be carried out remote from the monitoring site when a GSM modem is used with the
Controller Module.
